There are some toys that our kids use for a few months and there are some that stand the test of time. Magna-Tiles is one that has lasted for years in our homes and gets played with from 1 year olds that visit, all the way up to the almost 13 year old boy in the house.
Our kids build so many different things with Magna-Tiles. Ferries, homes, castles, spaceships, and whatever else they come up with that day. Here is why we love them, and why we think they make a great birthday gift.
They are versatile. The same tiles can become almost anything: letter shapes, car tracks, towers, a ferry boat one day and a castle the next. When a build comes down, the pieces are ready for the next idea.
They also spark creativity and imagination. Magna-Tiles do not build just one model, so our kids decide what they want to make and work out how to make it. There is no single right answer, which leaves plenty of room for imagination. Every build starts with their own idea, and we love seeing what they come up with. Here is one of their builds in action.
They are durable, too. Our tiles have held up to daily play, to builds being knocked over, and to being put back together again. A toy that lasts is a big part of why we think they are worth buying.
And they make a great birthday gift:
- They stack with any set a child already has, so adding a few more tiles is always useful.
- They work for a wide age range, from simple shapes for little ones to bigger builds for older kids.
- If a child is new to them, a small set is an easy place to start, and more can be added later.
Three sets that are on our table right now:
This is the set in the photo above: 13 pieces, including a seahorse tile, a starfish tile, a curved blue slide, a dolphin and a surfing figure.
A 13-piece set with yellow, green and blue ocean-print tiles, a diver figure and a shark figure.
